School’s almost here — and across Texas, major metros are hosting dozens of free and low‑cost back‑to‑school fairs, backpack giveaways, health screenings, and enrollment drives to help families prepare for the 2026–27 school year.  This statewide guide pulls together the biggest events in Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, El Paso, Corpus Christi, Lubbock, Tyler, Waco, McAllen, Amarillo, and Beaumont, with dates, locations, and registration details so you can reserve supplies, access health services, and plan your visit   Whether you need a guaranteed backpack, immunizations, vision screenings, or help with enrollment, start here to find the events nearest you and the quick steps to register.

Dallas — Mayor’s 30th Annual Back to School Fair

Date: August 7, 2026, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Location: Fair Park, 3809 Grand Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75210

Dallas ISD’s Back to School Kickoff

Date: Saturday, August 2, 2026. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Location:  Ellis Davis Field House, located at 9191 S. Polk St., Dallas, TX

Onsite registration and free supplies while supplies last.

Additional Information:  Parents will receive onsite assistance with registration for students enrolling in pre-K through 12th Grade.  Students registering onsite will receive free school supplies, approved backpacks, and other services while supplies last.  (Bring: birth certificate, parent photo ID, proof of address, immunization records, social security card)


Tarrant County / Fort Worth Area — Tarrant County Back to School Roundup (20th Annual)

Date: August 7, 2026, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Location: Tarrant County College South Campus (Fort Worth); 5301 Campus Drive, Fort Worth, TX


Pre‑registration window: May 22–June 22, 2026 (families must register during that window to receive supplies).

Plano — Plano ISD & City of Plano Back to School Fair

Date: Wednesday, July 29, 2026, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Location: Plano Event Center, 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX 75074

Additional Information: The fair will feature community organizations, family support resources, and opportunities to connect with local partners who serve Plano ISD students and families.  Families may also pre-register to receive backpacks and immunizations before the event.


Arlington ISD — Arlington ISD Back-to-School Kickoff

Date: August 1, 2026, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Location:  AT&T Stadium, 1 AT&T Way, Arlington, TX 76011. 

Additional Information:  Free age-appropriate supplies for students enrolled in Arlington ISDFree backpacks, school supplies, and more; check Eventbrite listing for registration requirements/eligibility   (eventbrite.com); 

Also includes:

  • Dental and health screenings
  • Haircuts provided by students from the Career + Technical Center
  • Vendors with information on after-school care and other community resources

Mayor’s Back 2 School & Health Fair (City of Houston)

Date:  Saturday, August 1, 2026, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Location:  George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida de las Americas, Houston, TX 77010

Giveaways: Backpacks, school supplies, onsite health screenings, routine immunizations, and vision/dental screenings

Additional Information: The Mayor’s Back to School & Health Fair, Presented by Shell, is designed to help economically disadvantaged Houston-area elementary school students and their families as they prepare to return to school.  In addition to distributing 20,000 backpacks with school supplies, the event will feature onsite health screenings, including dental screenings and sealants, vision screenings, mental health screenings, and routine immunizations.


Spurs Annual Back to School Bash and Community Resource Event

Date: Saturday, August 8, 2026, starting at 12 p.m.

Austin Backpacks for Bright Futures at IDEA Health Professions

Date:  Saturday, July 18, 2026, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Location:  5816 Wilcab Road, Austin, Texas 78721

Additional Information:  Open to the public!  No RSVP needed.  Backpacks will be available for the community on a first-come, first-served basis.

Important:  Scholars must be present to receive a backpack.
